Loudoun Country Day School preschoolers in Mrs. Susan Hower's four-year old class have adopted a community service project this year in partnership with the nonprofit organization Birthday Blessings, Inc. to provide needy children with birthday presents. Birthday Blessings philosophy is "We at Birthday Blessings, Inc. believe that when children don't receive a birthday present, they feel left out and forgotten, potentially damaging their self-esteem."

Birthday Blessing finds children through social services, shelters and prison ministries, and their identities remain anonymous. Mrs. Hower's class has held two raffles during the school year to raise money for these gifts. This week they went on a field trip to the local Walmart and spent $543 to buy gifts for adolescents. Sometimes the needs of children in the age group of 12-16 are forgotten, and the four-year olds decided to adopt this age group for their birthday present program.
The Executive Director of Birthday Blessing, Inc., Sharon Brown, will receive the wrapped presents from the Pre-K class on Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. as part of the school's weekly Monday morning assembly.
